At Wesley College, we have always been committed to creating a residential experience that supports both individual growth and a strong sense of community. Sitting within the University of Sydney, we bring together students from diverse backgrounds and provide an environment where they can challenge themselves, build lasting relationships, and contribute meaningfully to College life. are forged.

Our Mission

As a Residential College of the Uniting Church within the University of Sydney, we seek to:

  • Foster a vibrant community of learning and personal growth
  • Provide a safe environment which encourages and promotes the academic, social, sporting, cultural and spiritual growth of each individual
  • Assist students in developing qualities and values that will be modelled in their everyday life
  • Sustain the College into the future.

Does everyone get invited to an interview?

Unfortunately, due to demand for a place at Wesley, we are only able to invite shortlisted applicants to an interview.

Can I choose my room?

For first-year students, all rooms are allocated by staff. Returning students are able to choose their room for the following year.

How are fees paid?

For new students, there is a $2000 acceptance fee and $3000 deposit payable before your place is guaranteed. Then, there are four main fee instalments, as per our Fee Schedule.

Do I have to reach a minimum ATAR to get into Wesley?

No, however, you must be accepted into an undergraduate degree at USYD, and strong academic performance is viewed favourably.

Will I share a bathroom?

Yes, at Wesley, most rooms have shared bathroom facilities. A small number of rooms have ensuite bathrooms.

Does Wesley have a non-residential program?

No. Wesley does not offer a non‑residential or affiliate program.

Do you make offers on a first-come, first-served basis?

No. Applications are assessed holistically, and offers are made in several rounds throughout the admissions process. Submitting an application early does not guarantee an offer or an earlier outcome.

How many referees do I need to have?

You need at least one referee, and they should be school‑based. Suitable referees include a subject teacher, principal, careers adviser, or pastoral care teacher.

Should I apply if I am planning to take a gap year?

Applicants planning to take a gap year are asked to apply for Wesley during their gap year rather than before it. We will be keen to hear about your experiences after school!

When do applications for residency open/close?

Historically, applications open in late April and close at the end of October.

Does Wesley offer post-graduate accommodation?

No. Wesley College offers undergraduate accommodation only.

Can I apply to Wesley College if I am studying at USYD for one semester?

No. Applications are generally for full-year (40-week) positions only.

How are scholarships awarded?

At Wesley, scholarships are awarded based in financial need, merit, and location (with preference given to those from rural and regional areas).

Wesley offers scholarships ranging from $3,000 up to full fees.

Scholarships are awarded as a discount off residential fees, with part of the scholarship applying to each semester. Scholarships are not awarded in cash.

Yes, if you prefer not to have your name published, we will respect your privacy and keep your donation confidential.

How will my donation be acknowledged?

We acknowledge all donations with a receipt and thank-you letter. We also recognise support in The Wesleyan each year.

Can I make a regular or recurring donation?

Yes. You can set up a monthly, quarterly, or annual donation — a great way to make a lasting impact over time.

Are donations tax deductible?

Yes, all donations over $2 to approved funds such as the Building Fund and Scholarship Fund are tax-deductible in Australia.

Wesley offers a comprehensive tutorial program, peer-assistance in writing and mathematics, bespoke academic advice, and course planning.

Yes, a non-refundable application fee of $150AU is required.

Yes. International students can apply and we can arrange a Zoom interview if you are successful in being shortlisted.

Is preference given to rural and regional students?

Preference is given to students who need accommodation the most, which typically includes those from rural and regional areas, as well as others from outside Sydney.

Do I need to be a member of the Uniting Church?

No. We are a diverse community welcoming students from all religions and backgrounds.

How many new students does Wesley take each year?

The size of the first-year cohort varies, but we generally have 90-110 places available each year for new students.

Does Wesley take students from other universities?

No. To live at Wesley College, you must be a full-time undergraduate student at the University of Sydney.

Do I have to have accepted a place at USYD before I apply to Wesley?

No. You can apply to Wesley before you have been accepted into the University of Sydney. We can reserve a spot for you pending your USYD offer acceptance.
