Let's begin

Wesley College is proudly committed to broadening access to the University of Sydney. We prioritise applicants from outside the Sydney metropolitan area - particularly those from regional and rural New South Wales - who may have limited local accommodation options.

All applications are reviewed holistically on academic merit, personal character, and potential for contribution to College life, and those who demonstrate particular strength across these criteria will be invited to attend an interview.

While all applications are considered, only exceptional Sydney-based applicants will be progressed to this stage. We value the ongoing contribution of our Old Collegians across generations, and we warmly welcome applications from students with a family connection to Wesley College.

Application Process

Register your details

Step 1

Register your details

Before completing your formal application, you will need to create an account for our online StarRez portal. This will require you to provide your:

  • Name
  • Gender
  • Date of birth
  • Contact details
  • Chosen password.

Complete your written application

Step 2

Complete your written application

You will need to complete a written application to tell us all about yourself. This will include:

  • Information about your education to date.
  • Your academic, sporting, and cultural interests and achievements.
  • Any family connection that you have to Wesley.
  • Personal statements relating to your values, leadership and community service, and interest in college life.
  • Referee details (at least one). This could be a teacher, family friend or someone who has known you for some time. They will need to complete questions about you. Please send them the Referee Report link once you have completed your application.
  • Passport size profile photo (.jpg or .png format).
  • Most recent school report (and your most recent academic transcript, if you have already completed a semester of university).

Upload your video submission

STEP 3

Upload your video submission

To help bring your application to life, you will be required to upload a short video (2 minutes only). You can either share a link (e.g. to YouTube, Vimeo, Dropbox) or upload your video file to our form.

There is nothing specific that you need to cover - use the time as you see fit! For example, you could:

  • Introduce yourself and tell us about your family
  • Tell us about a passion of yours
  • Share some exciting news with us
  • Give us a rundown on how your year is going
  • Show off a talent!

You should ensure that at least part of your video is just you talking to the camera. You don't need to be overly creative, or have incredible video-editing skills... just be yourself!

Pay your application fee

STEP 4

Pay your application fee

Once you have provided this information, you will be re-directed to an online payment gateway to complete the $150 AUD application fee payment (so make sure you have a valid credit card on hand).

You will also be required to submit a declaration, confirming that the information provided in your form is true and correct. Once you have clicked through to the end of the process, your application will be considered complete!

Attend your interview

Step 5

Attend your interview

Strong applicants will be invited to attend an interview with a staff member: the Master, the Director of Students, the Director of Programs, or the Dean of Students.

Interviews are scheduled through our online booking system, so you can select a time that works best for you. As most of our applicants come from outside Sydney, our interviews are often held over Zoom, but we are always keen to meet in person if you are able to come to the city! Please allow approximately half an hour for your interview.

Although your interview will be relatively informal (we want you to be able to put your best foot forward), we will want to see that you have put thought into why Wesley is the right college for you, and what you would contribute to our community. We also want to hear about who you are as a person: what's important to you and how do you relate to others?

Receive your outcome

Step 6

Receive your outcome

We will get back to you with an outcome as soon as we can. Due to places at Wesley being in high demand, it can take several months to receive an outcome, and many applicants may not receive an outcome until early December. You are welcome to keep in touch with our Front Office Manager if you have any updates for us, such as an offer to another college.

Applicants will be advised if they have been successful, waitlisted, or unsuccessful. Successful applicants will be required to pay an initial $2,000 acceptance fee. Waitlisted applicants may receive an offer as we approach the beginning of the academic year.

Your best foot forward

Application Tips

We understand that applications can be a bit stressful and confusing. Here are a few tips to help you approach the process with confidence and come across the way that you want to.

Be Yourself

Whether you're writing, speaking to the camera, or meeting our staff & students, let your personality come through; we're keen to know the real you.

Prepare Well

Before each stage of the admissions process, reflect on your experiences and what matters to you, but don’t over-rehearse. Natural is great!

Avoid AI

We know that GenAI can make it easier to fill a text box, but we value genuine, personal responses over polished, AI-generated answers.

Ask for Help!

If you're unsure about something, don't panic! We are here to help, so just get in touch and we will point you in the right direction.
